An enemy is an adversary who works against you. They can work against you to different degrees. You receive no love from an enemy. Here are three categories of enemies we face as humans and to the different degrees they can work against you. The bible teaches us that Satan is our ultimate adversary. Bible quote, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1st Peter 5:8).
Types of Enemies:
1. The Destructive Enemy: Those that come against you for death & destruction. Pray for they to be destroyed. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit consume them! These are demon spirits.
2nd Samuel 22:3
“I pursued my enemies and destroyed them.
And I did not turn back until they were consumed."
Psalm 143:12
And in Your lovingkindness, cut off my enemies
And destroy all those who afflict my soul,
For I am Your servant.
2. The Hindering Enemy: Those that block/hinder you from your purpose and destiny. They also specialize in slowing you down from fulfilling what God’s calling you to do. These are demon spirits working against your success.
Pray that they be scattered:
Psalm 65:1-5
Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
Exodus 23:27
“I will make your enemies afraid of me. I will confuse any people you fight against, and I will make all your enemies run away from you.”
Deuteronomy 28:7
“The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways.
Leviticus 26:7
But you will chase your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword;
Pray that their agenda be thwarted and uprooted:
Isaiah 54:17
No weapon formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that rises against me be condemned.
3. Non-supportive enemy: They demonstrate passivity and apathy towards you. They don’t show or give love; they are non-supportive in your endeavors; they are often jealous of you; they don’t wish for good for you; they won’t help if they could and they won’t bother to try. These are often sadly family and friends. colleagues, co-workers and associates under the influence of the devil.
Handle the following way:
Romans 12:19 says, “Never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay,' says the Lord”
Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
Luke 6:28
Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Proverbs 25:21
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
Other Scriptures to ponder over and to encourage you. God fights for us as we love our enemies. He is our vindicator. Let us note that we don't wrestle against flesh and blood but principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12). People hurt us because they are under the influence of the devil. We will not maliciously contend with others but love them and entrust the situation to God. He is a just God. Our role is to love and forgive.
Pray Psalm 23:3
The Lord will prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies:
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Deuteronomy 30:7
The Lord your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.
Proverbs 16:7
When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Exodus 23:22
But if you truly obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
